Have you ever wondered what lies beneath Malta’s crystal-clear waters? This August, join us for Spot the Anchor, a unique heritage experience that combines adventure, archaeology, and conservation in one unforgettable day.

On 21 August 2026, members of the public will have the rare opportunity to visit a submerged archaeological site at Armier Bay through guided snorkelling sessions running between 10:00 and 15:00.
Participants will join small groups of 5–8 people, ensuring a safe, interactive, and personalised experience. Accompanied by our experienced dive team, you will be guided to the marked underwater site and challenged to spot the anchor while learning about its archaeological significance and the story it tells about Malta’s maritime past.

More Than Just a Snorkelling Experience
Before entering the water, participants will attend a short orientation session introducing the site, its importance, and the wider field of underwater archaeology. This briefing will help you better understand what you are seeing underwater and why protecting these sites matters.
Whether you’re a seasoned snorkeller or simply curious about Malta’s heritage, this is your chance to connect with the past in a truly immersive way.

The experience continues onshore, where our staff will be presenting archaeological artefacts and interpretative materials related to Malta’s underwater cultural heritage.

Celebrating a Milestone in Heritage Protection
This event is being held under the patronage of Malta’s National Commission for UNESCO and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage and the 5th anniversary of Malta’s ratification of this Convention.
It is an opportunity not only to experience an archaeological site firsthand but also to reflect on the importance of protecting our underwater cultural heritage for generations to come.
