The Superintendence of Cultural Heritage is responsible for the compilation, updating and managing of a national inventory of cultural heritage, as outlined in Article 53 of the Cultural Heritage Act 2019. The said national inventory is currently being updated in order to include movable cultural heritage items.
The duties of the Superintendence in regard to statutory protection extends to carrying out fieldwork exercises, research, and proposing cultural heritage features and property for scheduling to the Planning Authority’s Executive Council. The Superintendence is also responsible for receiving and processing reconsideration for scheduling requests and those relating to scheduling appeals.
