Bord tal-Warrant tar-Restawraturi

The Bord tal-Warrant tar-Restawraturi is established in terms of Article 35 of the Cultural Heritage Act, and its functions are determined in terms of Article 39 of the same Act.

The Bord is tasked with considering applications for the issue of a warrant to practice the profession of Conservator-Restorer and the related practicing certificates in Malta, by assessing relevant academic qualifications and practical training undertaken by the applicants, as well as considering applications from experienced individuals. Applications for Temporary Warrants are also considered. Persons having Heritage Skills may also be registered by the Bord.

The Bord tal-Warrant tar-Restawraturi is also responsible for drawing up a Code of Ethics and Guidelines of Practice for warrant holders and persons registered as having Heritage Skills/s. 

The Bord also establishes criteria for continued professional training and development for warrant holders and holders of practising certificates and evaluates relevant training programmes.

When cases of professional misconduct are brought to the attention of the Bord, these are evaluated, and disciplinary proceedings can be determined. These refer to individuals holding warrants and practising certificates, as well as those holding temporary warrants and persons registered as having a Heritage Skill. Disciplinary measures can include the suspension or withdrawal of any warrant, and/or practising certificate/s or the suspension of the registration of a Heritage Skill.

The Bord tal-Warrant tar-Restawraturi advises the Minister responsible for Cultural Heritage in matters relating to the profession of Conservators-Restorers and to Heritage Skills.

CPD Notice for Warranted Conservator-Restorers

Reference is made to the obligation of Warranted Conservator-Restorers to submit their Continued Professional Development (CPD) documentation as per Article 31 (4), Cultural Heritage Act, CHP. 445 of the Laws of Malta.

The Bord tal-Warrant tar-Restawraturi reminds all Warrant holders that they are to submit their CPD documentation for the year 2022 by the 31st January 2023 on the email address listed below.
