Heritage Built in Stone was the theme for 2013 European Heritage Days.  Stone is one of the few natural resources found in the Maltese Islands, has been in use for millennia for construction, and is still in great demand today, providing a tangible testimony on the evolution of one aspect of Maltese cultural tradition.

Events organised for EHD for 2013 included the opening to visitors of the Rihama Battery, guided tours at Casa Rocca Piccola, and reduced or waived fees at the Mdina Cathedral Museum, Zabbar Sanctuary Museum, St John’s Co-Cathedral Museum, Palazzo Falson and Limestone Heritage.

Properties under the management of Gozitan-run NGO Wirt Għawdex, and Il-Ħaġar Museum were also open during this special weekend, as well as properties under the management of Din l-Art Ħelwa and Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna.  Heritage Malta also celebrated European Heritage Days by organising its first ever open day to the prehistoric megalithic temples site of Ġgantija.
