Restoration Funding Scheme Movable Artefacts
The Superintendence of Cultural Heritage has officially announced the inauguration of the scheme for the restoration of the movable cultural heritage of the Parish Churches which fall under the Archdiocese of Malta and the Diocese of Gozo.
The Superintendence, in collaboration and agreement with Arts Council Malta, will be administering this scheme where a budget of €83,000 is being allocated.
This scheme will focus on those items over 50 years of age that fall under the definition of Cultural Heritage, as described in the Cultural Heritage Act.
Movable cultural heritage, may include, but is not limited to, paintings, textiles, statues, chandeliers and other cultural artifacts.
To qualify and benefit from this scheme, one must be registered with the Commissioner for Voluntary organisations, in terms of the Voluntary organisations Act. The applicant should therefore be legally authorised to represent the organisation.
Details of how to submit an application, including the list of required documents as well as other details, are set out in the guidelines prepared for the purpose of this scheme. Each beneficiary will have the opportunity to recover one hundred percent of the restoration costs, up to a maximum of €8,000.
It is important to recognise that preserving movable cultural heritage is not just an act of conservation, but is evidence of our appreciation for a past, as well as our dedication to the future. These artifacts serve as tangible links with our ancestors, and merit us with their beliefs, traditions and aspirations. As administrators of this heritage, it is our responsibility to ensure that these links are not broken, and to continue to inspire future generations.
The Superintendence thanks those who have contributed to the development of this scheme because it is thanks to this collective effort that such initiatives may be possible.
