Inauguration of the restoration of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Qrendi

The Superintendence is delighted to announce the inauguration of the restoration of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Qrendi.

Restoration works included an archaeological investigation which resulted in the discovery of walls that had survived beneath the Baroque Church, indicating that the new Church was built above an older chapel from the Late Medieval period.

This investigation was followed by a comprehensive restoration of the Chapel that saw the collaboration of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and the Restoration Directorate.
