European Archaeology Days are an initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and coordinated by the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP). France has been celebrating EAD events at a national level since 2010 and in 2019 it took the decision to open participation to other European countries. The idea behind EAD is to organise public events celebrating the various facets of archaeology. As from 2021, the Superintendence took on the role as the National Coordinator for European Archaeology Days.
