The SCH adds Palazzo Marnisi to the National Inventory
The Superintendence of Cultural Heritage has announced the addition of Palazzo Marnisi in Marsaxlokk to the National Inventory.
This development shortly follows a Conservation and Protection Order issued by the Superintendence on the Palazzo, which obliges the owners/ possessors of the site to take the necessary steps in restoring and reinstating this prestigious Palazzo.
The site’s addition to the National Inventory reinforces its inherent value and enshrines the site with a layer of protection that is deserving of a property of this scale and cultural heritage merit.
As outlined in Article 59(1) and Article 70 of the Cultural Heritage Act 2002 (as amended), it is imperative to note that any development or intervention on these properties requires prior approval from the Superintendent. Furthermore, causing damage to any of the properties included in the Inventory, even if privately owned, is strictly prohibited and constitutes an offense punishable by law.

The National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands is a cultural heritage register curated and compiled by the Superintendence as one of its functions established by the Cultural Heritage Act (CAP 445).
By virtue of Cultural Heritage Act Articles 57, 59, and 63, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage is imbibed with the authority to issue a Conservation and Protection Order on cultural properties which might be at risk. The Conservation and Protection Order obliges the owners or possessors of the cultural property to undertake the necessary action as may be specified in the notice which serves the protection of the cultural property.
The Superintendence will continue on its mission to protect the nation’s heritage, in raising awareness and advocating for the preservation of valuable cultural heritage.
